Bad press for John Paul II

By

The Pope is receiving almost universal adulation following his passing, even from liberals who mostly opposed his moral teachings and sought to influence the Catholic Church in directions opposed by His Holiness. But one exception exists: the hardline press in Iran.

John Paul II is being excoriated in the Iranian press for daring to recognize Israel and working for tolerance and understanding between Jews and Christians, according to Regime Change Iran. Some of the press is so vile it almost seems a parody:

The Hamshahri newspaper, also on the Iran's right wing, complained that the late head of the Roman Catholic Church "caved in to pressure from the Jewish lobby" despite "Jewish responsibility for the death of Christ".
