Bush watches movies - an opportunity to bash

By

Needles to say, the New York Times has a negative spin on why Bush watched the movie Paper Clips: "avoid feeling clueless about the national conversation on movies."  Ah, yes, Bush the clueless. There's an old meme of the smug Northeastern elites ready to be flogged. They just can't help themselves: disparaging the guy makes them feel so smart and sophisticated, especially when his policies appear to be succeeding brilliantly.

They got a two—fer by needlessly disparaging President Reagan, as well, painting him as the recipient of studio freebies. Naturally enough, the president who made a habit of inviting campaign contributors to White House screenings, Bill Clinton, is entirely absent from the story. Not exactly "all the news fit to print."
