Dems running into irate constituents over ObamaCare
I am busy laughing at an e-mail from the local TEA party people. There should be some first rate political theater in the offing. After what happened to HHS Secretary Sebelius, MD SenatorCardin and Mo Rep Russ Carnahan when they each were confronted by taxpayers who seemed to know more about the pending health care bill than they did, I suspect that some members of Congress may not be so eager to go back to their districts during the upcoming recess.
The Blue Dogs have to be in a quandry. Most of the Democrat leadership is so entrenched in jerrymandered districts that they have little to fear from voters.. Some of the Blue Dogs have to chose. Face the wrath of the Pelois and Rahm Emanuel or the pitchforks of voters back home. The more senior ones like Minnesota's Collin Peterson will certainly go their own way. So will Oklahoma's Dan Boren. As the son of a former Governor and Senator he has his own fundraiser resources and would handily beat back any primary challenge from the left. The other junior Blue Dogs may not be in such a great position.
The heat is definitely on Heath Shuler.
Last Friday a group of concerned citizens got a fairly frosty reception when they visited my own Congressman's office to present him with a petition on the issue.
When asked when Shuler would be in Asheville, the assistant repeated several times that we were each welcome to call the Washington DC office to request an appointment with the scheduler. He refused to make the call on our behalf. He also left the lobby before our gathering was finished asking him questions.
Here is what today's e-mail said.
We are currently working to learn Heath Shuler's schedule during his summer recess. No easy task, you can well imagine. We are working on plans for protests that Congressman Shuler will experience first hand during his August recess. Once we have dates and events confirmed, we will let everyone know.Despite the local media's misrepresentation and lack of reporting, Congressman Shuler will hear from us and will know that we are respectful, reasonable, and serious voters.
I suspect there will be a lot of hot August nights for member of Congress. I keep hearing this everytime I watch Barrry speak these days.
