'But make no mistake: BP is operating at our direction.'
To any normal person, Mr. Obama’s contention that, “from the moment this disaster began, the federal government has been in charge of the response effort” sounds disingenuous. Rather than provide true leadership, the FFP (future former president) and his comrades favor a “response effort” based upon populist speeches and staged propaganda events. Nothing is what is seems under the Obama regime.
While it is true that BP was a substantial contributor to Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign, he has been emphatic in his demand that they will be held “fully accountable” for this disaster. Mr. Obama has seized upon the populist angst of the nation and made political hay by issuing strongly worded statements directed at BP.
On Thursday the FFP was in Louisiana to inspire the people with his own particular style of leadership. Hundreds of cleanup workers were on hand for the occasion. The Times-Picayune reports.
BP, the oil company taking flak for its inconsistent response to the massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, bused in 400 extra cleanup workers to Grand Isle during President Obama's visit today, Jefferson Parish Council Chairman John Young said.
"It appears to have been a PR stunt by BP, not to say we don't appreciate the extra participation," Young said. "We certainly need them, but we don't need them for just one day that happens to coincide with a visit from the president."
[...]
Young said he saw the workers dressed in red shirts, blue jeans and black shrimp boots mulling across the beaches and in the mess hall during the president's appearance. They were uniformed in a way "which you don't normally see workers dressed like that," Young said.
After Obama's departure, Young said, the work crews all but vanished.
Was this a PR stunt? Undoubtedly it was, but who’s PR stunt was it? BP spokesman Mike Abendhoff said that the company has been increasing the number of cleanup personnel and resources every day and that the arrival of 400 additional workers before Mr. Obama’s visit was not done for PR purposes. The workers in question were hired by Environment, Safety, Health, Inc. whose CEO Donald Nalty said that their timely arrival “was 100-percent coincidental” and that any “allegations to the contrary are false.”
Did the workers disappear after Mr. Obama left the scene as Jefferson Parish Council Chairman John Young said? If Mr. Young’s assertion is correct then who is to blame? During his remarks Thursday afternoon Mr. Obama said.
But make no mistake: BP is operating at our direction. Every key decision and action they take must be approved by us in advance.
That would place the ball in Mr. Obama’s court. Now assuming that John Young is correct and BP engaged in an act of shameless propaganda, wouldn’t Team Obama be using this incident to further stoke the populist flames in an attempt to score some much needed points for the president? Am I the only one who smells a rat here?
During the healthcare debate, the FFP gave numerous speeches before specially selected crowds in partisan venues and was fed pre-scripted questions by well connected supporters. Didn’t we see bus loads of SEIU thugs arrive at countless events to engage in Obamaganda cheerleading, crowd control, intimidation and other distasteful activities? Excuse me if I can recognize a familiar pattern in the Obama regime’s PR tactics.
