IAEA Iran report: A call to action
The International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations nuclear watchdog, has just confirmed that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons and has been doing so for a good long time. In an exhaustive, long-anticipated report released earlier today the IAEA concluded that Iran has conducted secret experiments which are specific to the development of nuclear weapons and that it is continuing its efforts as we speak. The report is comprehensive and incontrovertible. Iran wants to become a nuclear power and is doing everything it can to develop nuclear weapons and become one.
This is not new information because the world has known about its efforts for many years. In the broad sweep of things the report is not telling us anything we didn't already know. All it has really done is give further credence to what we have known for some time. What we don't know however is how close the Iranians are to being successful. All indications are that they are very close indeed and that they will soon have the ability to launch nuclear weapons towards Israel or any other location in the Middle East and quite likely towards the United States and Europe as well.
Soon means very soon...not some dim, distant date in the far-off future, but very soon. That the Iranians will do so is a foregone conclusion. Their disgust and hatred for Israel and the United States in particular and the West in general is palpable, bred-in-the-bone and religiously motivated and there is no doubt whatsoever a nuclear Iran will use its weapons against Israel, the U.S. and Europe at the earliest opportunity. There is also the very strong possibility that it will use them against its Arab antagonists in the region. However the scenario unfolds use them it will. Iran is developing nuclear weapons to use them and nothing could be more obvious.
No doubt whatsoever means no doubt whatsoever. A nuclear Iran means war, and not a limited regional one either. Geopolitics being geopolitics it really means World War 111. A nuclear Iran would be disastrous for the entire world. There's no doubt whatsoever about that either.
At this late stage it is obvious that one thing and one thing only will stop the Iranians from achieving their ends, for the foreseeable future anyway...an attack by Israel which destroys or disables Iran's nuclear facilities. The United States has the military capacity to launch a preemptive attack on Iran but there is no way it will do that as long as Obama is President and by the time he leaves office it will be far too late. Israel really has no choice in the matter. It has to keep Iran from becoming a nuclear power as a matter of national survival and a unilateral preemptive attack by the Israeli military is the only way to do it. Whatever the consequences are for the country they would be far less severe than allowing Iran to have nuclear weapons.
Hanukkah and Christmas are almost upon us and the holiday season is just around the corner. Israel has given many gifts to the world since it came into existence in 1948 but destroying or disabling Iran's nuclear facilities would be the greatest gift of all. What a truly wonderful present to the world that would be.
Happy holidays from Israel to the world.
Hopefully.
