Obama's Easter Sunday preacher rails against 'captains of the religious right'
And a happy Easter to you too, Reverend. Castigating your political opponents fits right in with all that other Easter stuff, right?
There was only one reporter allowed into the St. John's Episcopal church, and his notes were pretty much perfunctory. Until he reported on the Sermon delivered by Reverend Louis Leon.
Daniel Halper of the Weekly Standard had access to those notes:
We often want things to go back to the way things used to be, before "work got difficult and faith got confused, and life got more confusing," but when we dwell on the "if only" of life we forget that "God addresses us in the now."
As Jesus told Mary not to hold on to the past, "You cannot go back."
"It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back ... for blacks to be back in the back of the bus ... for women to be back in the kitchen ... for immigrants to be back on their side of the border."
"The message of Easter is about the power of love over loveless power."

Obama should have had this holy man on the stump with him. He obviously picked up the themes of the Obama campaign and parroted them back nicely.
So far, Halper and ABC's Arlette Saenz are the only reporters who actually reported on the only real news to come out of the service; the politicization of the sacred.
Don't be surprised if the Reverend Leon runs for Congress next year.
