President Obama’s chaotic, ill-considered response to ISIS is reflected in the messaging disarray of various spokesmen for the administration and Democratic Party leadership. By Sunday, it seemed that, however reluctantly, they were conceding that yes, we are at war. The Free Beacon provided this video compilation of the various messages:

But Nancy Pelosi apparently didn’t get the message, for yesterday, appearing on Rowan Farrow’s MSNBC show. She said:

Well they, uh uh, you know, people use the term, uh, uh, uh, we have a war on drugs and a war on this and a war on that. Uh, the, we are, uh, eh, eh, ah, we have initiated hostilities against ISIS, that’s for sure. Uh, we’re not at the term of our war that would require a declaration of war by the Congress of the United States.

Soopermexican, writing at The Right Scoop, made the astute observation:

Now we’ve “initiated hostilities?” It sounds like a bitter jilted woman who sends passive aggressive subtweets about her cheating ex.
 

Carol Brown points out that Pelosi has been among the worst abusers of the “war” analogy to describe political disagreements:

Pelosi has been a vocal member of the “war on women” crowd where she has been forthright and has not hesitated or stuttered when speaking on the topic.

In the Democrats' latest fundraising bid, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday accused Republicans of waging a "war on women." (snip)

…Pelosi urged a $3 donation "to send a clear message that we will not tolerate or stand by while Republicans wage war on women’s rights."

…"The national media and our opponents will use our grassroots fundraising totals to measure the strength of our opposition to the Republicans’ War on Women."

The Shark-Tank reports:

During a Friday interview with MSNBC’s Alex Wagner, Nancy Pelosi pushed the war on women, claiming that Republicans have “disrespect” for women.

House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi told a summit of female activists she believes Republicans are engaged in a war on women and women's rights.

"There is actually a war on women," the minority leader told several hundred activists….

The HuffPo reports:

Congressional Democratic leaders have found another venue to hit Republicans for their so-called war on women: the debate over student loan costs.

Yet now, as we battle (albeit too little too late too confused) ISIS, she cannot say we are at war.

Usually, the Democrats are masters of message discipline. The difficulty they have in agreeing on whether or not we are at war with ISIS indicates a deep split within the party.
