Karl Zinsmeister has a superb essay on today's Opiniojournal.com web page about the unspoken but real transformation in the substance of the social base of the two major political parties. The Democrats have become the party of the plutocrats and underclass, along with many of the educated professions, while Republicans have become the party of the middle class and upwardly—mobile strivers.

It is a must—read.
